About
Agni Prasad Sapkota (born 7 March 1958) is a senior Nepalese politician from the Maoist Centre, who has played roles both during Nepal’s armed insurgency and after in democratic governance. He served as Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2020-2022, as well as holding ministerial positions earlier. Long before that, he was a teacher and became deeply involved in leftist student politics, before joining the Maoist insurgency and rising in the party leadership. In recent years, his political standing has been complicated by reemerging legal scrutiny over accusations from the conflict era, testing issues of accountability and political culture in Nepal.
