Harka Raj Sampang Rai

Harka Raj Sampang Rai, born 27 February 1983 in Khartamchha, Khotang, is a Nepali social activist turned politician who serves as Mayor of Dharan since May 2022. Educated in English and political science, he worked abroad before returning to engage in civic issues like corruption, access to water, and environmental causes. Running as an independent, he defeated established party candidates, gaining attention for his hands-on leadership, clean image, and connection with youth. He is seen as part of Nepal’s emerging generation of local leaders with potential for higher roles.
