About
Jhala Nath Khanal was born on 20 May 1950 in Sakhejung, Ilam, Nepal. He rose through Nepal’s communist movement, serving as general secretary of Marxist-Leninist parties, then leading CPN (UML) as chairman. In 2011, he became the 35th Prime Minister of Nepal, though his government was short-lived, mainly due to challenges in constitution drafting and coalition politics. More recently, he joined the CPN (Unified Socialist) after splitting from UML and remains an elder statesman in Nepalese leftist politics.
