Narayan Kaji Shrestha, born in 1959 in Gorkha, is a senior politician with the CPN (Maoist Centre) and a veteran of Nepal’s leftist and democratic movements. For decades he has engaged in both activism and formal politics — from fighting the Panchayat system, through the Maoist conflict, to playing important roles in successive governments. Most recently he has served as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Foreign Minister, showing his continued relevance in Nepalese coalition politics. Known for his ideology and experience, he is considered one of the elder statesmen of left politics in Nepal.
